The Buchakjian Lab strives to work together to perform rigorous basic science to improve the outcomes of patients with oral cavity cancer. The lab is integrated within the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center and supported by collaborators within the Metastasis Research Group. We aspire to ask important questions, maintain high standards for our work, prioritize inclusivity and diversity, and always keep the patient at the forefront of our goals.

I am inspired to treat head and neck cancer patients and help guide them through treatment planning, surgery, and postoperative care. It is important to me that I connect to my patients and that we function as a team throughout their treatment. Due in part to my clinical goals and responsibilities, I am interested in head and neck cancer metabolism, specifically looking at how cancer cells utilize fatty acid synthesis as a fuel source. I am also interested in clinical research involving surgical margins and patient outcomes, as well as perioperative pain control in major head and neck surgeries.
